What is Microblading?

Microblading is a method of applying of semipermanent makeup.  It is done by manually inserting pigment into the upper layers of skin to give the impression of fullness and shape to the eyebrows.  It is done using a manual blade so strokes are sharp and crisp.  The results of this method looks natural and just like hair strokes.

Are you a good candidate for microblading?

If you have skin which is prone to complications with eczema, psoriasis, keratosis pilaris and dermatitis (i.e., your skin is constantly flaking, itching, or aggravated), chances are your skin is in a constant state of unrest and shedding and is not suitable for tattooing and therefore won’t hold the pigment well. If your skin has large pores, specifically in the region of the eyebrows and forehead the colour may blur and result in a powdered look. Along similar lines, tattooed hair strokes will not lay properly on skin with deep wrinkles, which can make the overall look appear uneven. Moles, bumps, piercing, and generally raised skin around the eyebrows will also not be able to retain colour. If you are taking certain medications .(i.e., Accutane) it can alter your skin.  Everyones skin is unique so Kayla cannot predict how your skin may react as a result of the procedure. If you are allergic to lidocaine, prilocaine, benzocaine, tetracaine or epinephrine then you will not be suitable for the procedure as Kayla uses these to numb your brows so you are comfortable.  When you come for your session Kayla will assess your skin as well as have you fill out Medical Profile form.

 How long does it take?

The first initial session should approximately take 2 hours.  During this session Kayla will measure and shape your brows.  You will both go over pigment colours and once you are happy with the shape and pigment the procedure will begin.

Is it painful?

The pain level for the procedure is considered mild to none. Your comfort is important to Kayla she will apply a topical anesthetic to numb the area, and a second application will also be applied during the procedure.  Everyone responds differently to anesthetic; depending on the client.  After the procedure, redness and slight swelling in the area is normal.

How many treatments are needed?

Kayla recommends a touch up 4-6 weeks later. Everyone heals differently and this gives you the opportunity to make them darker or create more density to your brows the second time.

Looking after your freshly microbladed brows.

Aftercare consists of keeping your brows clean, as well as applying the ointment Kayla provides you with.  Just like a real tattoo DO NOT pick or rub your eyebrows as they are healing, this will cause the pigment to come off prematurely.  Do not apply makeup on the brows for at least two weeks but everywhere else is fine.  All laser and rejuvenation type treatment should be avoided on the brow area to avoid premature fading, pigment swelling and or colour altering.  Skincare routine will also affect the lasting effect of the pigment.  Clients who tan or use products with AHA or Glycolic Acid will find their brows fade faster as their skin will resurface faster. Each individual's colour retention within the skin will vary.
